What happens to services which fail to be accredited?

Services should be advised to apply for accreditation only when they are confident that they meet or almost meet the accreditation standards. If a service is assessed as not meeting the standards, a number of outcomes are possible:

  • A service close to meeting the standards may be given a timeframe to resolve a number of issues. If it can demonstrate that it has resolved the issues within the timeframe, it will be granted accreditation.
  • A service found to be some distance from meeting the standards may be provided with details of the areas in which it needs to improve and will be advised to reapply when the improvements have been made.
